After weeks of preparation from the Mermaids team and lots of help along the way from divers and non divers, we kicked off the first clean up day on Saturday 12th September with the 2nd Inter Schools International Clean Up Day.
It was great to have our partner International Schools down from Bangkok – NIST, St Andrews, Garden International, Bangkok Patana and Wells International. We also welcomed on board for their first year with us – Concordian International School and the students from RIS. ISB also returned for their 2nd year. Thanks everyone for waking up so early to travel down from Bangkok to take part. Our partner school in Pattaya, Regents International School didn’t have far to travel to get to us. Thanks to the Staff, Dive Club members and students who took part, again in their 2nd year.
The weather was superb and we had a record attendance of 353 people across 10 boats. Upon reaching Koh Sak, the divers jumped in to begin the underwater clean up and the snorkelers headed off the to the beach. A record 4 tons of rubbish was removed that had been collecting there over the past months.
